My Journey

My Roots & Lineage

I am Vietnamese—Canadian. I grew up in Buddhist households from both my paternal and maternal side of the family. My paternal grandmother, in many ways, initiated and sown the spiritual seeds on my path. She was a continuous seeker, devotee, and disciplined practitioner of Buddhism. She attended and lived seasonally at Buddhist temples throughout Vietnam to study and practice Buddhism. I honor her as one of my ancestors that laid a strong foundation on my path of Buddhism & mindfulness.

My ancestors and the land we grew up in lived through the Vietnam War. In many ways, this historical event is a big part of my healing work with my ancestors. My paternal grandfather, a very humble and loving man—who rode his bicycle three hours a day to bring rice home to his children during the war, during the bombing on the street. He taught me the values of humility, grace and love. I honor him as one of my ancestors whose love deeply touched my heart, and I dedicate this spiritual work to him.
